Known affectionately as England’s ‘little man’, at just 5ft4in tall Arthur Young certainly punched above his weight for The British & Irish Lions.
Having earned three sporting Blues for Cambridge, the scrum-half joined Blackheath after completing his studies and also represented Kent at county level.
Long before he was capped by England he was an established member of the Barbarians touring side, and as well as turning out for England 18 times and scoring twice, the highlight of his career was the 1924 \tour of South Africa with the Lions.
He played nine times on that Tour, including the second Test against the Springboks in Johannesburg where the hosts were 17-0 victors.
Young also served in the Royal Tank Corps with the British Army, and whilst in India on national service he contracted influenza and died in 1933 from pneumonia at the age of 31.
