Ireland centre Brendan Mullin got his first chance with the Lions in the 1986 centenary match against a Rest of the World XV, lining up in the centres alongside Welshman John Devereux.
Having made his Ireland debut two years earlier, Mullin came off the Blackrock College production line while also earning rugby blues at Oxford University.
After being selected for that one-off match, Mullin was picked for the 1989 Tour to Australia, scoring seven tries in as many games including hat-tricks against Western Australia and New South Wales Country.
He played the first Test on that Tour before being replaced by Jerry Guscott in the centres, and later scored the first Test in the victory over an ANZAC XV to finish the Tour.
