Brian O’Driscoll epitomised everything that was great about The British & Irish Lions and is one of only three players to have gone on four Tours.
The second most capped international rugby union player in history announced himself on to the world stage at the tender age of 22 in the 2001 Tour of Australia with a world-class try in the first Test victory.
He went on to captain the Lions in the 2005 Tour but his Test series was ended prematurely by injury.
The former centre, who made 133 appearances for his country, returned for the 2009 Lions Tour of South Africa where he captained against the Golden Lions in place of Paul O’Connell.
He started the first two Tests – forming a potent partnership with Jamie Roberts – against the Springboks before injury ruled him out of the third.
The leading Ireland try-scorer was then selected for his fourth Lions Tour by head coach Warren Gatland in 2013 – playing a key role in securing a series victory. In total, O’Driscoll made 18 appearances in a Lions jersey.
