Having made his England debut against Wales in January of that year, Bryan West was picked as part of the Lions squad that toured South Africa in 1968.
West, who at the time was playing his club rugby for Northampton, turned 21 during the Tour but his route to the Test team was blocked by Rodger Arneil and fellow Northampton man Bob Taylor.
He nevertheless appeared twice during the latter stages of the Tour against Border Bulldogs and Orange Free State.
West went onto earn eight gaps in total for England before deciding to switch codes and play rugby league with Wakefield Trinity.
