Derek Prior "Budge" Rogers was the first English player to be honoured by the Queen for his services to rugby football, notching up a then-record 34 caps for the Red Rose between 1961 and 1969.

A born leader on the pitch, Rogers was England skipper seven times and Barbarians six, as well as captaining club side Bedford.

He lies joint-second in the all-time lists of Baa-Baas appearances with 25, played against the All Blacks at Cardiff Arms Park in 1964, and toured to South Africa in 1969.

But as a British & Irish Lion Rogers added another two Test caps to his tally, playing twice against South Africa on the 1962 Tour, as well as making a further ten appearances in the famous red jersey and scoring against Rhodesia and Eastern Transvaal.

He became president of the RFU in 2001 and was elected to the board of Trustees of the Lord's Taverners in 2000.
