Belfast-born prop Charles Trevor Payne joined the 1927 British & Irish Lions Tour to Argentina which was managed by former RFU President James ‘Bim’ Baxter.
The 1927 Lions played nine matches, racking up 295 points while only conceding nine with Payne starting in each international.
Though the results were one-sided, they sparked a rugby revolution in South America.
Payne could turn his hand to hooker as well as prop and played 16 internationals for Ireland in a four-year Test career that saw him claim victory over England on debut at Lansdowne Road and memorable away triumphs in Colombes, Cardiff and at Twickenham.
