Injuries meant that England winger Chris Oti’s international career was relatively short but he managed to fit plenty in over three years on the Test stage.
The first black player to represent England for 80 years, Oti scored a hat-trick against Ireland in 1988 leading to some spectators in the Twickenham crowd from Douai School chanting ‘Swing Low, Sweet Chariot’ which has since been adopted as an unofficial England anthem.
His exploits earned him a call-up to the 1989 Tour to Australia with the Lions, but as for much of his career, injuries hampered his dreams of a Test appearance.
He did however play in three warm-up games on the Tour, scoring a try against Queensland B.
