Wales’ three victories in the 1977 Championship helped prop Clive Williams push for a place on the Lions’ 1977 Tour to New Zealand.
The Welsh prop made eight starts and one substitute appearance during the tour, scoring a single try against Manawatu/Horowhenua, but didn’t feature in any Tests.
His time would come though as three years later Williams was again selected to Tour and this time played in all four Tests against the Springboks.
Williams was one of three try-scorers as the Lions won the final Test 17-13 to restore some pride with their first and only Test victory of the four-match series.
