Prior to leading England to Rugby World Cup victory in 2003 and going on to manage the British & Irish Lions on their 2005 Tour to New Zealand, Clive Woodward enjoyed an illustrious playing career.

It started at Harlequins before moving to Loughborough University and then Leicester Tigers and made his England debut against Ireland in January 1980.

The English centre was selected for his first Lions Tour the same summer kicking two conversions and a drop goal against the SARA XV in his first game.

Woodward went on to make 11 appearances during that Tour, scoring four tries, and was selected for two Tests.

In 1983 the Englishman was once again selected for the Lions and played in seven fixtures but no Tests in New Zealand.

His last international appearance came a year later against Wales at Twickenham after which, in 1995, he moved to Australia before returning to the UK to coach in 1990.

He took over the England reins in 1997 and took them all the way to World Cup glory in 2003 before heading up the Lions' Tour to New Zealand two years later.
