A prop renowned for his brutal scrummaging, the strength of Courtenay Meredith earned him a spot on the plane to South Africa in 1955.

Alongside Billy Williams and Bryn Meredith, he helped form part of an all-Welsh front row in a Lions Test for the last time until 2009.

Capable of playing tight-head or loose-head prop, Meredith made his Welsh debut against Scotland at Murrayfield in 1953, going on to win almost 65 percent of all the matches for his country.

Playing 18 times internationally, Meredith also ended his career in the Scottish capital, sandwiching that career by playing all four Tests in the 1955 tied series, with his tight packing an integral part of the Lions campaign.
