Craig Chalmers made his Scotland debut in January 1989 – six months later and he was starring in a red jersey against Australia.

An astute tactical kicker and an impeccable tackler, Chalmers was whisked into the Lions side after making a sizable impression at for Scotland in the Championship earlier that season.

Indeed, on Test debut, he scored a try and a drop-goal in a superb display against Wales and remained Scotland’s starting fly-half deep into the 1990s, earning 60 caps in total.

The tour of 1989 was to be his only Lions appearance but he scored six points with his boot, in the first Test defeat to the Wallabies, before making way for Rob Andrew.

Chalmers, who appeared seven times on Tour, also has a Lions try to his name after scoring against NSW Country in a midweek game.
