Born in South Africa, Reginald Cuthbert Mullins was given the chance to return to his place of birth as part of The British & Irish Lions’ Tour in 1896.
Educated at Keble College, Oxford, Mullins was also a doctor, serving in Pretoria in the Second Boer War, also becoming a temporary Captain of the Royal Medical Corps during the First World War.
On the pitch, the forward played in two Tests for the Lions, the first and third, both of which saw his side victorious – two of his 13 games in Tour.
While never featuring for his country, Mullins’ rugby career wasn’t to end there, also playing for Hospitals towards the turn of the century.
