Prop Dai Young in the only man to have toured with the Lions in three separate decades.

The Welshman pulled on the famous red jersey 18 times in 1989, 1997 and 2001 – though only played in three Test matches all of which came on his first Tour.

With Sir Ian McGeechan as coach the Lions headed Down Under in 1989 for the first time in 18 years.

Young appeared in all three Tests as the Lions came from behind to secure a 2-1 series victory.

The Welsh prop’s decision to cross codes to Rugby League saw him miss the 1993 Tour, but he was back to take his place in South Africa in 1997.

He featured in six of the ten matches against provincial sides, but Paul Wallace and Tom Smith were preferred in the front row in each of the Test matches.

Nevertheless, Young was in the touring party to Australia again in 2001 where he featured in four warm-up matches scoring two tries.

Young’s final appearance in the famous red jersey came with the honour of the captaincy in a 30-28 win over ACT Brumbies that was sandwiched by the first two Tests.
