Dan Biggar did not break into the Test side on his first British & Irish Lions Tour in 2017 but the Wales fly-half was front and centre of the 2021 series against South Africa.

Bigger started all three Tests for The British & Irish Lions against the Springboks and was one of Warren Gatland’s standout performers, producing a brilliant display in the first Test by kicking four penalties and a conversion in a 22-17 win.

His Tour ended in heartbreak though as he was forced off the pitch due to injury in the decider and had to be replaced by Scottish showman Finn Russell.

Biggar also started the opening match of the summer against Japan at BT Murrayfield and the second of two contests against the Cell C Sharks, both of which the Lions won.

In New Zealand in 2017, Biggar kicked 35 points across his five appearances and marshalled the midweek backline in impressive style to victory over the Chiefs and a thrilling draw with the Hurricanes.

He also came off the bench when the Lions downed the Maori All Blacks.

His first match against Blues – the Lions’ second game of the Tour – ended prematurely due to injury but he bounced back with an impressive showing against the Highlanders.

A consistent performer for his country, Biggar started all five games of the 2021 Six Nations, helping Wales to the title with 36 points in all.

His best performance arguably came in the narrow loss to France, with a 20-point haul including a rare Test try in the last-gasp defeat.

That Six Nations title was Biggar’s third, after 2013, and a Grand Slam in 2019, while he plies his trade with Northampton Saints.

Arguably Biggar’s finest moment at club level came with the Ospreys when his last-minute touchline conversion earned them victory in the PRO12 final back in 2012 away to Leinster.
