David Burcher’s impressive Championship campaign for Wales in 1977, which saw them claim the Triple Crown, earned him a place on the Tour to New Zealand later that year.
Burcher was given the nod over experienced Scot Jim Renwick and was one of five centres selected by Wales and Lions coach John Dawes.
The Newport player featured in 15 Tour matches in total and started the third Test, which ended with a 19-7 victory for New Zealand.
Burcher, whose four Wales caps all came in 1977, started his Lions Tour with a double in the opening match against Wairarapa Bush and went on to score five tries in total, with the others versus Malborough/Nelson Bays, Bay of Plenty and Fiji.
