Coventy stalwart David Duckham made his Lions debut just two years after forcing his way into the England side at centre.
The man from the West Midlands made 17 appearances for the Lions during their 1971 Tour of Australia and New Zealand, scoring 44 points in the process.
Duckham played in the Tour’s opening fixture, a 15-11 loss to Queensland, but really caught the eye later in the Tour, against West Coast-Buller.
Duckham racked up six tries in a 39-6 win, but despite his starring role did not feature in the first Test, just nine days later.
In total Duckham scored 11 Lions tries and played in the final three Tests of the Tour, winning one, losing one and the final match ending in a draw to give the Lions the series win.
While he was primarily a centre with England, Duckham was used more on the wing with the Lions as part of one of the greatest Lions backlines.
Duckham is now an honorary president of the Wooden Spoon charity, which, through rugby, aims to improve the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in Great Britain and Ireland.
