David Richards scored four tries during his four-year Wales career and was also on the scoresheet for the Lions during a 32-12 victory over Transvaal between the first and second Tests on the 1980 Tour to South Africa.
The Welsh centre had played in the 26-22 defeat to South Africa in Cape Town and went on to be named as Welsh player of the year.
He returned to his club, Swansea, where he was captain for three seasons and was a reserve for the 1977 Lions Tour to New Zealand but was not required.
Richards retired after 305 appearances for Swansea and 111 tries and eventually became a national selector for Wales.
