David Sole’s only Lions tour came in 1989 when he was a key part of the Test side that came from behind to win the series against Australia.
The loosehead prop started all three Tests for Sir Ian McGeechan’s side that sealed the series with a hard-fought 19-18 win in Sydney in the third and final Test.
In all Sole made eight appearances in the famous red jersey and scored one try – against New South Wales B in a tour match and formed a formidable front row with Brian Moore and Dai Young.
Sole enjoyed a hugely successful international career with Scotland – winning 44 caps in all and most famously was the captain of the side that won the Grand Slam in a titanic clash with England in 1990.
