Delme Thomas was one of Welsh rugby’s biggest stars in the 1960s and 1970s, and earned selection on three separate Lions Tours.

The second row featured twice on the 1966 Tour to Australia and New Zealand, before two more appearances followed against South Africa two years later.

Thomas’ love affair with the All Blacks continued in 1971, where he featured in two more Lions Tests as they won 2-1.

Aside from his Lions exploits, Thomas is probably best remembered for leading Llanelli to victory over the All Blacks in 1973, delivering a memorable speech to his team before the game.

Thomas combined his rugby career with his job as an electricity board linesman and would be back at work climbing telegraph poles the morning after a match.
