Doddie Weir made three appearances during the 1997 Tour to South Africa, scoring a try on his debut against Eastern Province.
Whilst on the Tour he suffered a horrific knee injury while playing against Mpumalanga Province which forced him to return home before the Test series - Nigel Redman was called up as his replacement.
Weir was first capped for Scotland against Argentina in 1990, he was a mainstay of the team throughout the 1990s, earning 61 caps.
The lock won six Scottish titles with Borders before joining Newcastle Falcons, with whom he won the Premiership title in 1998.
