Don Hayward first pulled on the famous red jersey of the Lions for their 1950 Tour to Australia and New Zealand, just a year after making his international debut for Wales against England.
Considered as one of the finest forwards to represent Wales in the early post-war period, Hayward made his Lions debut in the warm-up game against Marlborough/Nelson Bays, before going on to make 18 appearances in the southern hemisphere, including in three Tests against the All Blacks.
Hayward, who played for Newbridge before switching to rugby league in 1954, got his name on the Tour scoreboard only once, scoring a try in the 16-5 victory over Canterbury less than a week after his first Test appearance.
