One of many famous Scottish scrum-halves to have appeared for the Lions throughout history, Dougie Morgan earned his stripes as a Lion during the Tour of New Zealand in 1977.

Morgan, who played for Edinburgh-based club Stewart’s Melville for his entire career, grew in stature as the Tour went on and was the starting No.9 by the end.

He also had a useful boot and after impressive performances in the Tour matches, stepped in when Welshman Brynmor Williams was injured during the third Test.

He could not turn around the Lions fortunes as they fell to a 3-1 Test series defeat, but crossed for a try and kicked a conversion in the final game against the All Blacks – a slender 10-9 loss.

Morgan also enjoyed an accomplished career with Scotland, racking up 80 points in total across 23 Tests.
