A legend of the English game, Dusty Hare’s world record for points scored in a first class rugby career – 7,337 – remains unbroken since his retirement in 1989.
Indeed he was a prodigious sportsman and played several cricket matches for Nottinghamshire before concentrating on his rugby career with Leicester Tigers.
He had made his England debut in 1974 – while still playing rugby with Nottingham – but was however forced to wait another nine years to make his one and only Lions Tour.
Though he did not appear against the All Blacks in a Lions jersey, his trusty boot from full-back saw him haul in 88 points from a combined six games on Tour in 1983.
Hare was also a farmer during his playing days but sold his business in 2001 and eventually joined Leicester’s rivals, Northampton Saints, as a recruitment and development manager.
