Edward Crean was a part of the Lions in 1910 who travelled to South Africa under the official banner of all four Home Nations for the very first time.

The Liverpool-born forward never played for England – instead he plied his trade for Liverpool Football Club, which later became Liverpool and St Helens RFC.

Despite his lack of international experience, Crean can still lay claim to appearing for the British & Irish Lions four times in total – albeit not in a Test match.

His record stands at two wins, a defeat and a draw  - the latter coming in his last appearance during the 13-13 tie with Border Bulldogs.

Crean would later go on to join the Royal Naval Air Force during the First World War, rising to the rank of captain by the end of the war.
