A Cambridge University Blue, Edwin Mayfield was selected as part of the Lions squad for the 1891 Tour to South Africa.
Having represented Cambridge in the Varsity match earlier that year, Mayfield played 15 games as a forward for the Lions in South Africa, including featuring in two of the Tests.
On his return he worked as a solicitor and also served in the British Army in World War One.
