After rising through the Llanelli ranks to become first team captain, Elvet Jones got his first taste of international rugby in 1935 when the touring All Blacks visited Llanelli.
Three years later, despite never having won an international cap for Wales, Jones was selected to tour South Africa with the Lions, and made 12 appearances on the Tour.
He finished as the Tour’s highest try-scorer with ten to his name, including the first Lions try against the Springboks in the third and final Test of the series, and scored a hat-trick against both the South Western Districts and Rhodesia.
