Frank Sykes was a crowd favourite at Northampton Saints during the 1950s and 1960s, and while there have been quicker wings to play for The British & Irish Lions, very few had his combination of pace and power.
Sykes played an impressive 79 matches for Yorkshire - including 69 consecutively in the English County Championship.
He won four caps for England, but notably after his performances against France and Scotland in 1955 and subsequent selection for the Lions, his next international appearances came eight years later when he lined up against Southern Hemisphere giants Australia and New Zealand.
While he did not feature in any of the Lions Test matches against South Africa, he did play 14 matches on that Tour and scored two separate hat-tricks against South Western Districts and Rhodesia.
In total he notched up 27 points for the Lions, but he is also fondly remembered in his home town for his role as senior games master at Northampton Grammar School where he coached a stream of players into the Saints first team - including two more Lions in Bob Taylor and Bryan West.
