Gerry Doran, also known as Blucher Doran – a reference to Field Marshal Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher as he always arrived late – played his club rugby for Lansdowne and represented Ireland eight times.
His brothers, Eddie and Bertie, also played international rugby for Ireland, but Gerry will be remembered for scoring the winning try in the final game of the 1899 Home Nations Championship, which gave Ireland their second Triple Crown.
The Lansdowne skipper was then selected for the 1899 British & Irish Lions Tour of Australia, where he played 12 of the 20 tour matches.
He was selected for the first two Test matches against the Wallabies, and while Doran failed to score in the Test matches he amassed six tries in the invitational games.
