Graham Rowntree made his Lions debut during the famous 1997 Tour to South Africa, playing in six matches and scoring a try against the Junior Springboks.

It was eight years before he pulled on the red jersey again, during the 2005 Tour of New Zealand, when he played in six matches, including two Tests.

He was capped 54 times for England, despite having to compete for his position with the world's second most capped forward, Jason Leonard.

He played six games during the 1999 World Cup but was left out of England’s World Cup winning squad in 2003, with coach Clive Woodward claiming it was the hardest decision he ever made as national coach.

A one man club man, he made 398 appearances for Leicester Tigers, winning the Heineken Cup in 2001 and 2002.

Rowntree has also toured twice with the Lions as a coach, first as scrum coach in 2009 to South Africa and four years later as forwards coach in the historic series win over Australia.
