Moseley player Guy Evers was also selected for a ‘Rest of South’ team to face London and the Universities, before he was called up to The British & Irish Lions squad in 1899.
Evers missed the first Test against the Australians, which the tourists lost 13-3, but the forward wore the famous red jersey for the remaining three showdowns against the Wallabies – helping the Lions to three straight wins.
Despite bravely representing the Lions, Evers was never selected for England, and on his return to Britain he took up work in a fireclay mines and works business – where he was made a director in 1902.
