Scrum-half Harry Ellis won one Test cap during the 2009 tour to South Africa, replacing Riki Flutely for the final 25 minutes in the third Test win over South Africa.
Injury, including knee ligament damage had disrupted his England career. But Ellis proved his fitness sufficiently to be included by head coach Ian McGeechan in his Lions squad.
Ellis featured against the Golden Lions, Free State Cheetahs, Western Province and Emerging Springboks.
And though he could not take the No9 shirt away from Mike Phillips against South Africa, he was on the field as they finished the tour with victory in Johannesburg.
