At his electrifying best, Iain Balshaw was capable of carving up even the most regimented defences and that is exactly what he did against a tired Western Australia in the Lions 2001 Tour opener.
England colleague Matt Perry pipped Balshaw to the starting Test jersey, but the former Bath, Yorkshire Carnegie and Gloucester man appeared from the bench in all three matches against the Wallabies.
With 13 international tries and 38 caps, he was a World Cup winner in 2003 but suffered more than most with injury.
He missed the 2005 Lions Tour to New Zealand despite being selected, but will be remembered fondly for his exhilarating broken field running, outrageous turn of pace and exuberant style.
