Scotland No.8 Iain Paxton featured in all four Tests of the 1983 Lions Tour of New Zealand, and was unlucky to be on the losing side on all four occasions.
But Paxton was able to play his starring role in the warm-ups, scoring four times in five Tour matches while also returning in 1986 for the IRB Centenary Celebrations against the Rest of the World XV.
Earning 40 caps for Scotland, Paxton sandwiched his Lions appearances by leading Scotland to the Grand Slam, integral to the win over Wales – their first in Cardiff since 1962.
Selected for the Lions just two years after his debut, the No.8 featured heavily in his first Tour of New Zealand, while his display for Scotland in the 24-15 defeat of Australia at Murrayfield was seen by some as the reason he earned his Lions bow in 1983.
