Ian Stephens was called up to the British & Irish Lions for the 1980 Tour of South Africa before he had managed to earn an international cap with Wales.
He featured in five Lions fixtures on that Tour but was made to wait for a Lions Test jersey until the 1983 Tour of New Zealand.
By then the Bridgend prop had played nine times for Wales and scored his first try against the Bay of Plenty.
The Welshman was eventually handed his Lions Test bow in the first Test on June 4 against the All Blacks and started again in the third Test.
