Jack Bassett was a Welsh international full-back who won 15 caps for Wales, captaining the team on nine occasions and was selected for the 1930 Lions Tour of Australia and New Zealand.

Not necessarily the fastest full-back, he had a great positional sense on the field which ensure he was always close to the action and was seen as one of the hardest tacklers in the game.

He won his first Welsh cap in a defeat to England at Twickenham in 1929 and a year later he was handed the captaincy against Ireland. In the same game he gained his first international points with a drop-goal.

In 1930 Bassett had an exceptional tour with the Lions playing in 15 games and earning five Test caps.
