Capped for Ireland in cricket but not rugby union, James Magee joined brother Louis on the 1896 Tour of South Africa as the only siblings in the famous Lions jersey that Tour.
Playing in 13 matches, Magee got the nod for the second Test, and while his normal position was out on the wing, in this he operated as the full-back.
Magee missed the third clash, but returned for the final Test of the summer, this time in the three-quarters role, his final game of the trip.
Beyond the Tests, Magee played in 11 Tour games before returning to play club rugby with Bective Rangers.
