James Wallace, elder brother of fellow 1903 Lion Joe, studied at Trinity College where he played as a forward for the university’s first XV.
The forward won the first of his ten Ireland caps the summer before appearing for the Lions in South Africa.
And though he did not line up against South Africa in the Test series, Wallace appeared 11 times as a Lion and scored his one and only try in a game against King Williams Town.
The Wallace brothers played together for Ireland twice, and on the occasion of James’ last cap in 1906, he filled in at scrum-half with both half-backs injured and scored a try that prevented Wales from clinching the Triple Crown.
