Jamie George joined The British & Irish Lions for his third Tour after receiving a call-up the week before the first Test against Australia.
George was touring with England in Argentina before he was drafted into the squad to replace injured compatriot Luke Cowan-Dickie, having previously trained with the Lions squad ahead of the 1888 Cup match with Los Pumas in Dublin.
The hooker was first called up for the 2017 Tour of New Zealand, where he was at the heart of the pack which helped The British & Irish Lions come from 1-0 down to earn a share of the spoils in the three-Test series against the All Blacks in 2017.
Eight years on, the 34-year-old brings a wealth of experience to Andy Farrell’s squad as he completes the set of touring New Zealand, South Africa and now Australia.
“I am as ambitious now as I was when I was 25,” he said of his career. “The whole journey has not been straightforward, but you sort of learn and you get your head down. I learnt pretty early on that I had to be resilient and toughen up a bit. I feel that I have done that well.”
The Saracens hooker started all three Tests in New Zealand, following in the footsteps of Jason Robinson in 2001 by starting a British & Irish Lions Test before doing so for his country.
George was selected for his second British & Irish Lions Tour in 2021 and played in three matches, including against Japan at BT Murrayfield, but did not feature in the Test series.
The front rower captained England between 2024 to 2025, passing 100 caps for his national team in the process, and has won three Six Nations titles – including the Grand Slam in 2016.
George also started for England in the 2019 Rugby World Cup final against South Africa, and their semi-final against the same opponents four years later.
Plying his trade for his local rugby club Hertford as a junior, George soon graduated into the Saracens academy while also playing through all the England age groups.
After serving his apprenticeship behind Schalk Brits, George became a key member of Saracens’ all-conquering side and has three-European Rugby Champions Cup winners medals and six Premiership Rugby triumphs on his CV.
