One of Wales’ greatest Lions forwards, Jeff Squire was a veteran of three successive Lions tours between 1977 and 1983.

The back rower had just two Welsh caps, against Ireland and France, when he was selected for his first Tour to New Zealand in 1977.

He scored a try in his first appearance, against Wanganui/King County, and scored two more tries in 13 further games before being brought in for the final Test against the All Blacks, a narrow 10-9 defeat.

In 1980, Squire didn’t miss a Test in the Lions 3-1 defeat to South Africa and three years later, Squire added a sixth Test cap to his record in the opening Test against New Zealand.

That was his last bow at international level but across the three Tours, Squire racked up an impressive 32 appearances for the Lions and scored six tries.
