James Sealy made his England debut against Ireland in early 1896, and just a few months later was selected for The British & Irish Lions Tour of South Africa.

He was to play in all four Tests, as the Lions succeeded 3-1 in the series, part of an impressive 19-game Tour from the forward.

Sealy was also to cross the whitewash early on, scoring in just his second game against Suburban Clubs, while also playing nine Tests for Ireland, for whom he crossed twice.

But it was his ever-presence in the famous Lions jersey that caught the eye, with the Dublin University man joining Andrew Clinch and Thomas Crean in a formidable front row.
