Jim Webb was part of the Lions team which toured South Africa in 1910, playing three Tests against the hosts.

Born in Coleford in Gloucestershire, the lock turned out for Abertillery and Monmouthshire and earnt a Wales call-up despite the fact he played for a ‘second class’ side.

Webb won 19 consecutive caps for Wales and was part of three sides to win the Triple Crown. In 1908 he captained Abertillery against the first touring Australian side, helping secure a 3-3 draw against the Wallabies.

In 1912, Webb won his final Welsh cap against Scotland. The selectors deemed him too old to continue playing for his country at that point and Webb impulsively switched codes to join rugby league’s St Helens. However, he managed just five games.
