James ‘Jimmy’ Leo Farrell was twice a British & Irish Lion, touring Argentina in 1927 before going on to feature heavily on the 1930 Tour to New Zealand and Australia.

Irish second-row Farrell played 29 Tests for Ireland between 1926 and 1932 – winning 17 and losing 11 – and played all five Test for the Lions on their 1930 Tour Down Under.

Farrell, who played club rugby for Bective Rangers, turned out in four emphatic wins against the Argentines in 1927, before returning to Lions duty three years later.

He scored his one and only Lions try in a 34-8 win over Manawhenua, as well as starting alongside the famous kicking lock Brian Black in the side who claimed a famous 6-3 first-Test win against the All Blacks.

He and Black would go on to play four Tests together against New Zealand before crossing the Tasman and starting together against the Wallabies in a game the Lions lost 6-5.
