Jimmy Giles remains the only Lions scrum-half to start a Test out of his normal position after being selected as a centre for the fourth Test against South Africa in 1938.
And it worked a charm for the Lions as Giles, alongside place-kicking Ireland centre Harry McKibbin, helped his side end the Tour in style with a come-from-behind victory over the Springboks.
Giles – who also featured in the third Test – was a trusty boot himself as he scored 20 points during his 15 appearances for the Lions that summer.
The Englishman earned his first Test cap during the 1935 Five Nations and on his second outing, scored a try in the win over Ireland.
Indeed Giles would enjoy playing the Irish, as his only other try in his six appearances for England came at Lansdowne Road four months before he became a Lion.
