John Ashby was a member of the Lions squad that toured Argentina in 1910.
He had previously not played international rugby, but he was not alone with only four of the team that headed to South America having done so.
However, this didn’t hold Ashby and co back as they won all six of their matches, including a 28-3 success over Argentina.
This match on June 12 was the first Test in the Argentine national team’s history and took place at the Polo Ground of Flores in Buenos Aires.
