John Bevan had the unenviable task of rivalling Lions legend Phil Bennett for a Test position as Wales fly-half for much of his career.
As such he was only capped four times for his country, winning his first against France in 1975 after impressing for the Barbarians against the All Blacks the month before.
To his misfortune, the prodigiously talented Bevan was dogged with injuries that would eventually curtail his Wales career – but he nevertheless became a Lion in 1977.
Bevan appeared 12 times on Tour in New Zealand, scoring a try against West Coast/Buller and also lining up for the closing game with Fiji.
Bevan – who also played cricket for Wales – sadly passed away at the age of 38 in 1986 after a battle with cancer.
