After Harold Brown’s mother wrote to the then-England captain Don White to tell him about her rugby-playing son, he signed for Northampton Saints by the age of 18, and after joining the RAF in 1960, switched to Harlequins in 1963.
In 1962, Brown replaced the injured Richard Sharp on the Lions Tour to South Africa, and while he did not appear in any of the Test matches against the Springboks, Brown made five appearances in the famous red jersey in warm-up games, scoring nine points.
Five years later, Brown was invited to join the RAF bobsleigh team, and in 1968, represented Great Britain at the Winter Olympic Games.
