Edward Jackett, known by his middle name of John, was born in Falmouth and played for the town’s rugby club as well as Leicester Tigers and Cornwall.
He was capped 52 times for Cornwall, and was a member of the team which, representing Great Britain, won a silver medal at the 1908 Olympic Games in London.
Jackett made his international debut for England in 1905 against New Zealand before going on to win 12 further caps for his country, and in 1908, was selected to tour New Zealand and Australia with the Lions.
He made 15 appearances in the famous red jersey, including all three Tests against the hosts, and scored nine tries during his time in the southern hemisphere.
