A stalwart of Lions rugby, Welshman John Robins played 17 times in the red jersey, winning five Test caps and going on to become the first-ever Lions coach.

The prop won 11 Welsh caps during his four-year international career, but his highest accolades came on Lions duty, making his debut on the 1950 Tour to New Zealand and Australia.

Despite his position in the front row, Robins was a regular point scorer for the Lions, kicking nine conversions, one drop-goal and six penalties in his 17 appearances.

During the Tour Robins missed just one Test, drawing once and losing twice to the All Blacks, before winning twice in Australia.

After finishing his playing career, the Second World War veteran became the first Lions coach in 1966, on the Tour to Australia and New Zealand.
