John Spencer’s involvement with the Lions now stands at 45 years as having been part of the last squad to win a series in New Zealand in 1971, he was named the Tour Manager for the 2017 Tour.
The Yorkshireman won 14 England caps between 1969 and 1971, captaining his country on four occasions.
During that historic Tour to New Zealand in 1971, the centre scored four tries in ten matches overall.
That included the iconic 19-12 victory over Auckland before the third Test when Spencer linked up with skipper John Dawes in the centres in a backline that also featured Gareth Edwards, Barry John, David Duckham, Gerald Davies and JPR Williams.
Spencer has been England's representative on the Lions board since 2008 and has also served on the Six Nations council and the International Rugby Board.
He played his club rugby for Headingley, as well as Cambridge University, and since retirement has also served as the president of Wharfedale.
