John Taylor is known to many as a commentator who has described some of rugby’s finest moments, but the man from Watford was a speedy flanker in the 1960s and 70s, winning four caps on the Lions Tour to New Zealand – which they famously won 2-1.

Taylor represented Wales 26 times between 1967 and 1973, and he is perhaps most famous for a successful conversion against Scotland to win a Five Nations match in 1971 from a tight angle.

The London Welsh player swapped the pitch for the commentary box in 1991 and became ITV’s lead rugby commentator.

In the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England, Taylor was the stadium announcer for matches at Twickenham.
